Pannonpower connected its new, biomass fuelled unit to the district heating network of Pécs. This means that heat – intermittently at first – will be entirely provided by renewable sources or “green energy” for every household or public institution of Pécs with district heating. The trial run of the block is set to start soon, and if it proves to be successful, Pécs will be the first Hungarian city to employ sustainable methods (procured fuel) for heating instead of natural gas and fossil fuels.

It was a significant and spectacular milestone in the implementation process of the new biomass fired boiler of the PANNONPOWER: in the recent days the boiler of the power plant has been fired with straw-bales. With the start up of the automatic logistic system supplying the herb-bales of agriculture by-products for the boiler a successful commissioning period of the most complicated part of the equipment of the new power plant at Pécs was passed. The commissioning is still in progress in order to make possible the trial run as soon as possible after successful trial of different devices and their fine tuning.
